Neubau Sekundarschule "Fumathoka" Kenia

Project Description

The Liechtenstein Fumathoka Foundation (fumathoka.li) has been running a kindergarten and a primary school for needy children and orphans from the Mombasa region in Kenya already for more than 15 years. Currently around 500 children are taught and managed by 38 employees in Majaoni.
The project studio task is to design a secondary school for up to 240 pupils and about 40 employees including an attached boarding school in Kikambala, Kenya (about 1 hour north of Mombasa). The spatial program includes many functions like classrooms, sleeping rooms, office spaces, kitchen and sanitary facilities, assembly hall, sport venues, religious buildings, staff apartment’s, agricultural buildings and many more.
The site has more than 50.000m2 and additionally to the secondary school a self-sufficient agriculture with fruit growing, arable farming and animal husbandry is planned. Our main material and construction processes will be rammed earth – we will work very closely with Martin Rauch and his team. Circular construction, sustainability and energy neutrality are an integral part of the project studio. The opening of the secondary school is planned for 2023.
