All Information at a Glance

Tuition Fees

The tuition fees for bachelor's, master's and doctoral degree programmes are as follows:

  • CHF 950 per semester for EU/EEA and Swiss nationals, as well as students who hold a permanent residence permit or a settlement permit in Liechtenstein, or a school-leaving certificate (Matura) from an EU/EEA country or Switzerland.
  • CHF 1,250 per semester for students from other countries who do not meet the above criteria.

A fixed amount of CHF 10 per semester from the tuition fees is earmarked specifically for services provided by the student union.

Other Fees

Services not covered by the tuition fees may be charged separately. This includes fees for administrative services, decisions, or the use of infrastructure.
Further information is available in the Implementation Provisions of the Fee Regulations

The expected monthly living expenses for students at the University of Liechtenstein amount to approx. CHF 1,500. However, living costs are highly individual and can vary significantly.

To give you a general idea of the monthly expenses, we have compiled a brief overview with approximate reference values:

Rent including utilities – approx. CHF 680

Telephone/mobile phone – approx. CHF 20

Food – approx. CHF 450

Health insurance – approx. CHF 100

Clothing, laundry, hygiene – approx. CHF 100

Leisure, pocket money – approx. CHF 150

Health Insurance

Anyone residing in Liechtenstein for more than three months is legally required to have health insurance. Students from EU countries who are insured under their national statutory health insurance scheme can apply for an exemption from this requirement by presenting a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) or a provisional replacement certificate. Both documents can be obtained from the health insurance provider in the student’s home country.
Please note that travel insurance from your home country cannot be accepted as valid health coverage.

If you come from a country with which Liechtenstein does not have a social security agreement, you must arrange your own health insurance either in your home country or in Liechtenstein. Upon request, we can provide you with a list of insurance providers in Liechtenstein.

Private Liability Insurance

This insurance covers damage you may cause to other people or their property. It also includes damage caused in your flat or room. A private liability insurance policy costs between CHF 85 and CHF 150 per year and typically offers coverage of up to CHF 5 million.
Although not mandatory, we strongly recommend that international students take out private liability insurance.

Working While Studying

It is generally possible to work alongside your studies at the University of Liechtenstein, especially during the semester breaks.
Further information is available here

Scholarships

Scholarships are generally awarded on the basis of academic merit. In addition to excellent academic performance, some foundations or scholarship providers may also consider factors such as political or social engagement, or other achievements. Scholarships are typically non-repayable.

Student Loans

Another way to finance your studies is through student loans. Various banks and government institutions offer suitable options.

For example, the Principality of Liechtenstein provides interest-free loans to students who have been residing in Liechtenstein for at least three years and who continue to have their main residence in the country.

State Support

In many cases, governments offer various forms of support for students.

Students from Germany, Austria and Switzerland are often eligible for national funding opportunities to support their studies in Liechtenstein.

In Germany, students may be entitled to BAföG under certain conditions, which can also be applied for when studying abroad.

Austrian students may benefit from grants such as the Studienbeihilfe (study grant) or the Selbsterhalterstipendium (self-support scholarship), both of which are granted regardless of the place of study.

In Switzerland, the cantons offer individual scholarships and loans, which are awarded based on the student’s personal situation.

For detailed information and applications, students should contact the relevant authorities or advisory offices in their home country. The Student Advisory Service at the University of Liechtenstein is also happy to assist.

Taking Responsibility Together

Sustainability

Universitaet Liechtenstein Gebaeude mit weissem Mauerwerk und gruener Wiese im Vordergrund.

Sustainability is one of the defining issues of our time. It stands for responsible action with regard to both present and future generations balancing ecological, social and economic dimensions. As a Topic in Focus, sustainability shapes the strategic direction of the University of Liechtenstein in research, teaching and knowledge transfer. The university is committed to actively contributing to the transformation toward a sustainable society.

Universitaet Liechtenstein Gebaeude mit weissem Mauerwerk und gruener Wiese im Vordergrund.
Mitarbeiterin der Universität Liechtenstein Carmen Rist-Stadelmann
For me, sustainability begins with the choice of materials and their structural composition in built architecture. Our ancestors knew how to build using locally available materials and centuries-old craftsmanship. In doing so, they created a natural symbiosis between sustainable construction and cultural identity — one that continues to shape regional character and gives rise to diverse building traditions to this day."
Dipl.-Ing. Dr. techn. Carmen Rist-Stadelmann, Senior Lecturer

Sustainability in Research and Knowledge Transfer

The University of Liechtenstein understands sustainability as an interdisciplinary research focus. Ecological, social and economic issues are approached holistically. Key topics include sustainable construction, future-oriented financial models, tax incentives for sustainable business practices and the design of resilient cities.

Through practice-oriented research, strong partnerships and a clear focus on societal impact, the university develops solutions that contribute to sustainable transformation.

Othar Kordsachia
For me, sustainability in finance is more than just a trend; it is an expression of an attitude that combines long-term thinking, responsibility, and entrepreneurial action.“
Dr. Othar Kordsachia, Representative of the Professorship of Sustainable Finance and Investments

Organisational Sustainability

The University of Liechtenstein integrates sustainability into its daily operations. As a model institution, it places great importance on sustainable infrastructure, ecologically sound construction projects, conscious resource use and responsible mobility management. Sustainability is embedded in the university’s vision, ownership strategy and statutes and is actively embraced by staff, students and faculty members. The university not only aims to impart knowledge about sustainability, but to put it into practice.

Module Overview

Blockchain, cryptocurrencies and FinTechs have been spreading for years, right into everyday life. This programme prepares you for the impact of these disruptive technologies on established business models and value creation networks in the financial sector.

Graduates acquire in five modules solid knowledge and application-oriented skills to help shape the technological redesign of existing financial systems. The knowledge imparted is broad in scope and includes an overview of economic, technological, legal and tax aspects.

Module 1 – Fundamentals of Blockchain

The first module provides an overview of blockchain technology and explains both the basic concepts and its functions with the help of application examples. For example, using the still most prominent application, Bitcoin, it is shown how the proof-of-work approach ensures that manipulations of the Bitcoin blockchain are virtually impossible. At the beginning, an overview of stable coins and CBDC, crypto applications in the monetary system, is also gained.

In the second part of the module, after an introduction to computer science, various types of blockchains, their functioning and consensus mechanisms are extensively discussed, and their respective advantages and disadvantages are presented. The applicability of blockchain technologies in companies, so-called enterprise-grade blockchains, is also discussed.

Module Overview

The programme offers in-depth study in nine modules of Liechtenstein, European and international company, foundation and trust law as well as related cross-cutting topics. Taking current legal developments into account, the programme provides specialised legal training that covers Liechtenstein-specific features alongside fundamental knowledge of European law and comparative law.

Module 1 – Fundamentals of the Liechtenstein Legal System and Company Law

This module forms the foundation for further knowledge transfer in the LL.M. programme. The initial focus is on the fundamentals of company law and the structuring possibilities of the segmented legal entity. Participants distinguish between legal entities and partnerships without legal personality. They learn about the various legal forms of partnerships (simple partnership, general partnership [offene Gesellschaft], limited partnership) and cooperatives.

Subsequently, the legal forms of common corporate entities (GmbH and stock corporation) are presented in detail. Advantages and disadvantages of these company types — each compared with neighbouring legal systems — are also covered. Case studies deepen the learned material and integrate it into practical work.

The module concludes with an introduction to European law concerning the legal form of the Societas Europaea and the European Economic Area, as well as their significance for Liechtenstein, particularly considering the European fundamental freedoms and the general prohibition of discrimination.

In this environment, university-level professional education plays a key role in preparing specialists and executives for current and future challenges.

The University of Liechtenstein offers practice-oriented, academically grounded professional education programmes that are tailored to the needs of the regional economy. Part-time study formats enable employees to integrate newly acquired knowledge directly into their companies – a clear competitive advantage for businesses in the D-A-CH-LI region.

Through close collaboration with companies, associations and public institutions, the University fosters cross-border networking and actively contributes to the region’s continued development. In this way, professional education becomes a driver of sustainable growth and entrepreneurial success.

Your professional education deserves more than standard solutions. Our students and participants benefit from a high level of support and a strong service orientation. Thanks to flexible study models, professional education can be perfectly combined with career responsibilities.

The close connection to the regional economy, combined with in-depth expertise on Liechtenstein as a business and financial centre and on the D-A-CH-LI region, ensures practice-oriented content delivered at an academic level.

Through access to current research and cross-company exchange, we actively promote the development and expansion of professional networks – for your personal growth and new career opportunities.

The foundation of our professional education programmes lies in the expertise of the three Schools of Architecture, Business and Business Law. Each of these Schools has professorships that lead numerous research projects and generate valuable insights for practice.

Building on the analysis of the needs of a wide range of stakeholders in Liechtenstein, our study programmes are continuously developed further. In addition, shorter formats are created that enable the direct transfer of specialist and applied knowledge into practice.

In this way, the Liechtenstein Executive School serves as a bridge between academic research, teaching and practical application.

The content and application of academic disciplines are evolving at great speed. Professional education not only enables you to keep pace with these developments, but also to turn them to your advantage. By gaining new knowledge and expanding your professional network, you can actively advance your career.

A part-time professional education programme at the University of Liechtenstein makes it possible to remain professionally active while expanding your skills. This allows you to apply new methods and specialist knowledge immediately, increasing both personal learning success and added value for your company. Small study groups encourage intensive exchange with lecturers and fellow students from a range of industries. In addition, practice-oriented learning supports effective knowledge transfer, as case studies and project work are aligned with real-world challenges.
